Deep Dive - Snowflake’s New Addition - Crunchy Data
Do you remember the days of FoxPro, dBASE IV, and Paradox? What about the perennial Microsoft Access? Ingres or IBM IMS anyone?
I had to do a double-take on Tuesday when I saw the news that Snowflake (I figure it’s their week in the sun), bought a company called “Crunchy Data”.
Times have indeed changed. Could you imagine going to your manager back in 1993 and saying, “Hey boss. I found the perfect database for us. It’s called ‘Crunchy Data’ ”.
I pride myself on keeping tabs on every available cloud database known to cloud-dom, and I had never heard of this one.
I’m still laughing at this database name to myself, as I type this. But you know who has the last laugh? The founders and investors.
